Dear MAA Families – April 8, 2020

Dear Mesa Arts Academy Families,

Thank you for the many ways you have been supporting each other, our community, and our MAA teachers, staff and students these past few weeks. Thank you for staying home when possible, staying healthy, and for staying connected as the Governor has asked us to do. During this unprecedented time in our world, we have seen so many innovative and heroic actions by our employees, parents, and community members, reminding us every day of how important our MAA family is to the health and well-being of our students and community. 

Our admin, teachers, and support staff are working around the clock remotely and on-site when necessary, in order to support our teachers, students and their families, as well as to carry on the essential operations of MAA. 

These are just a few of the activities: 

• We have posted, and will continue to post, numerous resources for COVID-19 prevention, as well as information and directives from our state and local leaders. 
• We are continuing to feed all children ages 18 and under at our site.
• Every teacher is providing optional learning opportunities virtually and remotely for all students.
• All Special Education, ELL, and Gifted students are being provided with additional learning resources, remote therapy, etc.
• Learning activities and related links are being added to our Facebook page and website weekly.
• All teachers are providing grade-level specific work packets to our families who either have no connectivity, or who have chosen to have traditional types of learning activities.
• All essential school operations are continuing. Employees are working remotely or on-site when necessary.
• All staff is continuing to respond to all phone calls and emails.

Thank you for the many sacrifices you are making while schools are closed. Please be gentle with yourselves and remember that you were their very first teachers. Thank you for supporting our staff as they work to provide you with everything you need to keep your children learning, well fed, safe, and healthy. Thank you for your kindness, care, and support of our entire community, including our healthcare workers, first responders, grocery and drug store employees, delivery employees, and our restaurant workers, all of whom are sacrificing so much to care for all of us. 

I have attached a Frequently Asked Questions document to this letter for your information. Should you have any other questions or need assistance with any matter, please email me or call the office. I will do my best to answer or forward your email to the person that will best be able to help you.

Frequently Asked Questions 

What learning resources are available for my child? 

Teachers and staff have compiled a variety of online resources to help students of all grade-levels continue their learning from home. These resources are meant to give students a means to continue their learning and possibly explore other activities to keep them busy during this time. No grades will be given. Visit our Facebook page or our website at https://www.clubzona.org/mesaartsacademy.html to see the full list of resources. Teachers are also reaching out to their families through email, ClassDojo, Google Classroom, or other means. 

How will 4th quarter grades be assigned? 

Fourth (4th) quarter grades will be given as Pass (P) for every content area because students are completing learning remotely. 

Will my child receive a report card for this year? 

Report cards will be sent out at the end of the year. Admin will generate end of year report cards with Pass (P) for all 4th quarter areas. 

Will my child move up to the next grade level next year? 

All students will be promoted to the next grade level. It is impossible to meet the requirements of retention at this point in time. In addition, the Move on When Reading mandate has been suspended by the Legislature for this year. If an IEP team determines that a student should be retained OR, if in fall 2020, a student is struggling, then school staff and parents can make a decision about returning a student to the previous grade. 

During School Closures due to COVID-19, how do we enroll our child for the 2020-2021 school year? 

All students who are currently enrolled will be enrolled in next school year. Ms. Jazmyne will be getting in touch with all families in May to let parents know if there any required forms they need to complete. 

What if I need to pick up my child’s medication from school? 

The MAA office is currently open Monday-Friday, 7:00am-4:00pm. Feel free to stop by before May 21, 2020, to pick up student medication. Any medication left in the office will be thrown away after May 21. 

What if I need to pick up my student’s personal belonging at a school? 

Teachers have packed up all students’ belongings and put them in individual bags with their names. Parents/guardians may pick this up at the office. 

Will student records be distributed? 

Our admin staff is working to ensure that all record requests are sent out in a timely manner. 

Will Summer School take place? 

At this time, we are moving forward with plans for our Summer School to be held in June or July, depending on when quarantine is lifted. This program will be more important than ever for our students. Due to the ever-evolving state of emergency we are in, we will notify parents if we are unable to provide the Summer School Program. 

How will Summer School be assigned to students? 

Our Summer School Coordinator will be working with Mrs. Koperno and teachers to determine which students qualify for this program. 

How can I reach staff with other questions? 

MAA staff is working around the clock to support essential operations. Please email Mrs. Koperno or your child’s teacher with any questions. We are following the Governor’s Stay Home, Stay Healthy, Stay Connected Executive Order and are addressing ONLY essential functions at the school. Please regularly check our website and Facebook page. We will also send out emails to the contact information we have on file, and continue to make phone calls. Please make sure your communication preference is updated.

Gracias por las muchas formas en que se han apoyado mutuamente en las últimas semanas , nuestra comunidad, nuestros maestros, personal y estudiantes de MAA . Gracias por quedarse en casa cuando sea posible, mantenerse saludable y mantenerse conectado como el Gobernador nos ha pedido que lo hagamos. ¿Qué recursos de aprendizaje están disponibles para mi hijo? Los maestros y el personal han reunido una variedad de recursos en línea para ayudar a los estudiantes de todos los niveles de grado a continuar aprendiendo desde casa. Estos recursos están destinados a darles a los estudiantes un medio para continuar su aprendizaje y posiblemente explorar otras actividades para mantenerlos ocupados durante este tiempo. ¿Cómo se asignarán las calificaciones del cuarto trimestre? Las calificaciones del cuarto (cuarto) trimestre se otorgarán como Pase (P) para cada área de contenido porque los estudiantes están completando el aprendizaje de forma remota. 

¿Mi hijo recibirá una boleta de calificaciones para este año? Las boletas de calificaciones se enviarán al final del año. La administración generará boletas de calificaciones de fin de año con Pase (P) para todas las áreas del cuarto trimestre. 

¿Mi hijo pasará al siguiente grado el próximo año? Todos los estudiantes serán promovidos al siguiente nivel de grado. Es imposible cumplir con los requisitos de retención en este momento. Además, el mandato Move on When Reading ha sido suspendido por la Legislatura para este año. Si un equipo de IEP determina que un estudiante debe ser retenido o, si en el otoño de 2020, un estudiante tiene dificultades, entonces el personal escolar y los padres pueden tomar la decisión de regresar a un estudiante al grado anterior. 

Durante los cierres escolares debido a COVID-19, ¿cómo inscribimos a nuestro hijo para el año escolar 2020-2021? Todos los estudiantes que están actualmente matriculados serán matriculados en el próximo año escolar. La Sra. Jazmyne se pondrá en contacto con todas las familias en mayo para informar a los padres si hay algún formulario requerido que deben llenar. 

¿Qué sucede si necesito recoger el medicamento de mi hijo de la escuela? La oficina de MAA está abierta de lunes a viernes de 7:00 a.m. a 4:00 p.m. No dude en pasar antes del 21 de mayo de 2020 para recoger los medicamentos de su estudiante. Cualquier medicamento que quede en la oficina será desechado después del 21 de mayo. 

¿Qué sucede si necesito recoger las pertenencias personales de mi estudiante de la escuela? Los maestros han empacado las pertenencias de todos los estudiantes y las han colocado en bolsas individuales con sus nombres. Los padres / tutores pueden recogerlos en la oficina. 

¿Se distribuirán los registros de los estudiantes? Nuestro personal administrativo está trabajando para garantizar que todas las solicitudes de registros se envíen de manera oportuna. 

¿Tendrá lugar la escuela de verano? En este momento, estamos avanzando con los planes para que nuestra Escuela de Verano se celebre en junio o julio, dependiendo de cuándo se levante la cuarentena. Este programa será más importante que nunca para nuestros estudiantes. Debido al estado de emergencia en constante evolución en el que nos encontramos, notificaremos a los padres si no podemos proporcionar el Programa de Escuela de Verano. 

¿Cómo se asignará la escuela de verano a las estudiantes? Nuestro coordinador de la escuela de verano trabajará con la Sra. Koperno y los maestros para determinar qué estudiantes califican para este programa. 

¿Cómo puedo contactar al personal con otras preguntas? El personal de MAA está trabajando durante todo el día para apoyar operaciones esenciales. Envíe un correo electrónico a la Sra.
